You Could Be the Difference
Yes, you could be the difference by being informed and pro-active on the Fire Department’s proposed 10% budget reduction that is now before the Mayors Office for consideration. Being informed means:
·Knowing that a 10% cut equals roughly 10.1 million dollars in a Department which
90% of its budget is for personnel.
·Knowing that after all other cuts are made, 120 firefighting positions equaling about
8 fire companies still would be lost in addition to 6 EMS District Chiefs!
·Knowing that not only our firefighting capabilities would suffer but our EMS
capabilities would as well.
·Knowing that even though the fire engine company nearest you may not be closed,
they may be sent to a fire or a medical emergency at a location in a district where a fire engine
company HAS BEEN closed!
Being pro-active means:
· Letting your council person know NOW that your district cannot afford these cuts if
implemented
· Letting the Mayors Office know NOW that the City cannot afford these cuts if
implemented
· Letting your Firefighters know that you support them by contacting the Metro
Council and the Mayor’s Office.
