TRUTH ABOUT FIRE PROTECTION
Educating the public on “Fire Protection” is very difficult and is detailed in implementation due to the vast aspects of the job. We feel educating the public on this subject can only help ensure everyone’s safety. Fire Protection covers many aspects of the emergency services provided within our department. As you will see below we have many duties within the Fire Department, including medical, rope rescue, hazmat, to name a few.
All of our personnel train daily in some sort of manner. We train to keep our job credentials current and maintain efficiency working as a unit. Below are some of the different types of training required to keep everyone working in a safe and efficient manner.
· Daily training on all apparatus and equipment contained on them such as “Jaws of Life” or extrication equipment, and any other of the hundreds of different items carried on the various apparatus.
· Daily training on different subjects including personal protective equipment such as air mask, and turnout gear.
· Daily training on layouts for water supplies, using different lines to attack a fire and protect life and property.
· Special training for hazardous materials, high angle rope rescues in high rise buildings, swift water rescues, collapse, airport emergencies, confined space and mass casualty incidents.
· Any training required to keep various certifications such as Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic, Haz Mat Technician, Divers, or any other Technical Rescue Specialty.
· Business pre planning is done so we may be familiar with the cutoffs for various utilities such as natural gas, propane, and electricity. Pre-planning structures allow us to be familiar with occupancy and the layout of the building.
· Some of the above mentioned training is also coordinated with state and federal agencies including the different departments within Metro Nashville to insure proper cohesion within the various agencies and departments to safely and effectively get the job done.
